How to Choose and Read Your Prescription for Optical Swim Goggle?

Nearsighted or Myopic: If you wear glasses or contact lenses and you enjoy swimming, with a pair of ParMel's Optical Goggles, you simply have chosen to begin an enjoyable experience.  The ParMel's Optical Goggles provide you clear vision whenever you swim.

Find out what your existing single vision eye glasses prescription is.  Your Ophthalmologist or Optometrist will have this information and will give you the prescription similar that shows below:

                                 Sphere            Cylinder            Axis
Right Eye (OD)     _______          _______          ____
Left Eye (OS)        _______          _______          ____

·   OD refers to the Right eye, from the Latin "Oculus Dextrus"
·   OS refers to the Left eye, from the Latin "Oculus Sinister"
·   By convention, if the numbers are not labeled, then the first sets of readings are of the   right eye.

·   The Sphere power is the first number in your Prescription.

·   The Cylinder power for astigmatism is the second number in your Prescription.

Note: Swim Goggles are available in Spherical Prescriptions without Cylinder power.

·   It is recommended to Always Round Down the power diopters, rather than up in choosing a Swim Goggles. This places less strain on your eyes. i.e. for the Prescription of -2.25, choose -2.00. OR for the Prescription of -3.75, choose -3.50. If you have trouble deciding what power diopters lenses to choose, consult your eye doctor.

·   It might take a short time to adjust to your Optical Goggles. So, wear them for a few minutes, your eyes will adjust and you will be more than satisfied with the results. Enjoy your Swimming.

Swim Goggle Prescription Conversion

·   The first step to choosing prescription goggles is determining the diopter strength that most closely matches your current prescription. Follow the below steps, or ask your doctor to help you choose the best ones for you.

·   Calculate the strength of the diopter you need using this formula: 1/2 of the cylinder + sphere = diopter strength. Sphere is the degree of weakness in diopters. This is always a negative number for nearsighted people, and a positive number for farsighted. Cylinder is the degree of astigmatism in your eye. Add half of this number to the sphere to determine diopter strength.

·   For example, if your prescription is a sphere of -5.0 and a cylinder of +2.0, then (1/2 x +2.0) + -5.0 = -4.0 step diopter lens. Or if your prescription is a sphere: -2.0 and a cylinder: -1.0, then (1/2 x -1.0) + -2.0 = -2.0 (rounded up from -2.5) step diopter lens.

Warning
